Moving Dementia Care Forward Through Education, Support, and Leadership

The Dementia Grove CareForward Program

At The Dementia Grove, our mission has always been to support not only individuals living with dementia and their caregivers, but also the professionals who care for them every day. The Dementia Grove CareForward Program was created from a simple belief: when caregivers, staff, and leaders receive ongoing education and support, everyone benefits.

The Dementia Grove CareForward Program is an educational initiative designed for assisted living communities, memory care communities, skilled nursing facilities, and other organizations serving individuals living with dementia. Through ongoing staff education, caregiver support, and leadership collaboration, we help communities strengthen their dementia knowledge, improve communication, build confidence, and enhance the overall experience for residents and their families.

Families often ask us what to look for when choosing a community for their loved one. While The Dementia Grove remains an independent, family-centered organization and does not provide exclusive referrals or endorsements, we believe it is important to recognize communities that have made a meaningful investment in dementia education. Communities participating in The Dementia Grove CareForward Program have demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and supporting both their staff and the families they serve.

The Dementia Grove CareForward Program includes ongoing educational opportunities for staff, caregiver education and support, and leadership discussions focused on strengthening dementia care within each participating community. Rather than a one-time training, the program is designed to create a culture of continuous growth and excellence.

Why It Matters to Families

Families deserve to know that the people caring for their loved ones are continually learning, growing, and expanding their understanding of dementia. Communities participating in The Dementia Grove CareForward Program are investing in education that helps improve communication, increase staff confidence, reduce caregiver stress, and promote compassionate, person-centered care.

When families ask us about local dementia care resources, we are proud to recognize CareForward Communities as organizations that have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to advancing dementia care through education.

Founding Education Communities – Class of 2026

The first ten communities to enroll in a one-year The Dementia Grove CareForward Program agreement will be recognized as our Founding Education Communities – Class of 2026.

This designation honors organizations that are leading the way in elevating dementia care through ongoing education, caregiver support, and leadership development. These pioneering communities will be recognized for helping establish a stronger standard of dementia education throughout our region while demonstrating their dedication to excellence and continuous improvement.

If your community shares our vision of improving the lives of individuals living with dementia and those who care for them, we would love to start a conversation about becoming one of our Founding Education Communities – Class of 2026.

Co-Founder & Founding Educator, The Dementia Grove CareForward Program

Melissa Denham is the Founder and Owner of The Dementia Grove and Co-Founder of The Dementia Grove CareForward Program. As a Licensed Practical Nurse and nationally recognized dementia care professional, Melissa has dedicated her career to educating, empowering, and supporting individuals living with dementia, family caregivers, and healthcare professionals through compassionate, evidence-based practices.

Together with Gloria Ebey, she co-created The Dementia Grove CareForward Program to provide senior living communities with ongoing staff education, caregiver support, and leadership collaboration that creates lasting improvements in dementia care.

As a Founding Educator of the CareForward Program, Melissa develops educational content, leads interactive training sessions, mentors healthcare professionals, and equips caregivers with practical, person-centered strategies that can be immediately applied in everyday care.

Melissa is passionate about helping others see the individual beyond the diagnosis. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes dignity, meaningful engagement, and compassionate communication, empowering care teams to provide exceptional dementia care while supporting families throughout every stage of the journey.

Through The Dementia Grove and the CareForward Program, Melissa is committed to raising the standard of dementia education across Central Florida and creating communities where caregivers feel confident, families feel supported, and individuals living with dementia are treated with dignity and respect.
